South Korea told of president's promise to leave office early

Chairman of South Korea's ruling party "Civil Force" Han Dong-hoon announced the promise of Korean President Yun Seok-yol to resign. This was reported by the Korean publication YTN on December 7.
Han Dong-hoon apologized to the country's citizens for the events taking place "from the moment martial law was declared until today." He added that the declaration of martial law was unconstitutional and illegal.
"Citizen Force will seek the organized resignation of the president to minimize confusion. <...> The president has already said he will follow the party's decisions," the politician said.
According to Han Dong-hoon, the president will be effectively suspended from his duties until his resignation.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that South Korea's national assembly (parliament) failed to garner the required number of votes to impeach President Yoon Seok-yeol. Before that, about 149,000 protesters gathered outside the National Assembly building in Seoul's Yoido district demanding a decision to impeach the president.
Also on Saturday, Yoon Seok-yeol apologized to fellow citizens during a public address because of the imposition of martial law in the country. The South Korean leader promised not to re-impose it.
Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. The reason for such a step he called the threat of paralysis of power, arising from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that until martial law is lifted in the republic, the activities of parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul.
The opposition party of the republic, in turn, demanded the resignation of the head of state and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, the trade unions of the republic announced a general strike.
