Sechin warned against using the topic of energy for political purposes

One of the main challenges for the global energy industry has been unprecedented volatility in the energy market, Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin said.
"The main reason is the use of energy for political purposes. At the same time, ensuring energy security, the main function of the energy industry, is given secondary importance," Sechin said during a report at the Doha Forum.
In his opinion, renewable energy sources cannot meet the growing consumption of energy resources. In addition, we should not forget that 750 million people in the world still have no access to electricity at all, the Rosneft head continued.
To improve the quality of life of the population of developing countries to at least half the level of the "golden billion" living in developed countries, it is necessary to increase oil production almost twice, Sechin believes. "At the same time, it is necessary to provide sources of energy for the growth of consumption of the soaring economies of India, Southeast Asia and Africa as a whole," the Rosneft head added.
"This means that the role of fossil fuels in ensuring global energy security is becoming strategic," he concluded.
