- Belarus called the decision to deploy Oreshnik a response to the steps of the United States and Germany

The decision to deploy the Russian complex "Oreshnik" in Belarus was taken against the background of the position of the United States and Germany on the deployment of medium-range missiles in Europe. This was stated by Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus Sergei Lagodyuk on December 7.
"The decision to deploy the Oreshnik complex on the territory of the Republic of Belarus was taken in response to the steps taken by the United States and Germany on the deployment of medium-range missiles in Europe," the Telegram-channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic quoted him as saying.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff noted that the military department received a task from the Commander-in-Chief, according to which the military-industrial complex of Belarus together with Russian specialists will continue to work on weapons.
A day earlier, the head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to deliver Russian complexes for the launch of "Oreshnik" on the territory of the country . Putin, in turn, allowed the deployment of the corresponding complex on the territory of the republic in the second half of 2025.
Commenting on this, Union State Secretary Dmitry Mezentsev said that Minsk's request to Moscow is a signal to the West.
Putin announced the live test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, on November 21. He emphasized that the move was in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. In the following days, the head of state specified that Russia would continue these tests and that the decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
