About 149 thousand protesters gathered near the National Assembly building in Seoul's Yoido district demanding a decision on impeachment of South Korean President Yun Seok-yol. This was reported by the Korean news agency Yonhap on December 7.

"As of 17:30 (11:30 Moscow time), the rally in Yoido had gathered 149,000 people, according to an unofficial estimate. Organizers, including the Korean Confederation of Democratic Trade Unions (KCTU), estimate the number at 1 million," the publication said.

Representatives of the pro-presidential conservative camp, in turn, gathered in the center of the capital, the number of those gathered is estimated at 20,000 people.

Earlier in the day, Yun Seok-yol during a public address apologized to his fellow citizens because of the introduction of martial law in the country. The head of South Korea promised not to reintroduce it.

President of the Republic of Korea Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. The reason for such a step he called the threat of paralysis of power, arising from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that until martial law is lifted in the republic, the activities of parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul.

The opposition party of the republic, in turn, demanded the resignation of the head of state and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, the trade unions of the republic announced a general strike.
