Two brigades of the AFU mechanized and motorized infantry brigades and a brigade of marines were defeated in the areas of Dzerzhinsk, Shcherbinovka, Petrovka and Novoalexeevka," the ministry said in a statement.

Also in the area of responsibility of the grouping 10 counterattacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were repulsed. The enemy army lost up to 525 servicemen, five armored combat vehicles, three vehicles, three 152-millimeter D-20 guns and two 122-millimeter D-30 howitzers, the ministry said.

Earlier, on December 6, the Defense Ministry said that the Russian Armed Forces had liberated the settlements of Pustynka and Sukhiye Yaly in the DNR. The ministry specified that the villages were liberated by units of the Vostok and Center groups of forces.

On the same day, the Defense Ministry published footage of the Russian Armed Forces destroying a temporary deployment point of a Ukrainian National Guard unit in the DNR. The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
