A cynologist gave tips on protecting dogs' paws from reagents in winter

Gleb Moiseenko, a cynologist and training instructor of the Russian Cynological Federation, told Sputnik Radio on December 7 how to properly protect a dog from reagents in winter.
"The first two or three years, of course, the dog will be uncomfortable, uncomfortable, it will squeak. In place of microcracks and tears, scar tissue will eventually form, and there the dog no longer feels anything. And boots are not necessary, regardless of the size and breed of the dog, especially since they are completely useless and can only harm the dog," he said.
Moiseenko noted that after a walk it is necessary to thoroughly wash the pet's paws with water or special means for washing, but creams or waxes are not necessary. According to the cynologist, they are useless for pets that live in the middle strip.
"These waxes work, conditionally, from -25 to -30 degrees. When a dog puts his paw on the snow at temperatures higher than -25 degrees, he has time to unfreeze this snow under him from his body heat. Accordingly, with each step it simply erases this wax layer from you," he pointed out.
The cynologist also touched on the subject of poisoning by reagent. He noted that if the dog is used to eating snow, it can be poisoned by pieces of reagent that mixed with it. Eating such dirty snow can give the pet chemical burns and food poisoning.
"In fact, it is not very critical if you immediately go to any veterinary clinic, where the dog will be given all the necessary help," - said the cynologist.
Earlier, on December 6, the president of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev warned of the dangers that can befall dogs in winter, and gave advice on how to protect pets during a walk. He noted that it is not worth allowing a pet to jump into piles of snow during a walk. The cynologist also urged to avoid walking on ice.
