Iran has begun to evacuate from Syria the military, employees of the diplomatic mission and their families. This was reported on December 6 by the US newspaper New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"According to regional officials and three Iranian officials, Iran began evacuating its military commanders and personnel from Syria on Friday," the publication said.

As the NYT pointed out, part of the evacuation is being carried out by airplanes to Tehran, and the other part by ground routes to Lebanon, Iraq and the Syrian port of Latakia.

It is reported that among those evacuated to Iraq and Lebanon were high-ranking commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), IRGC personnel, some members of the diplomatic mission, their families, and Iranian civilians.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. Embassy in Syria advised American citizens to leave the country due to the risk of a national emergency and an unstable environment.

The Wall Street Journal learned about the proposal to the Syrian president from officials from Egypt and Jordan to leave the country and form a government in exile. According to the publication, Assad is still in the territory of the republic, but last week his family has already left the country.

At the same time, the Syrian Defense Ministry reported that the AFRC servicemen together with the Russian air force were able to successfully conduct an operation and smash terrorist units in the north of Homs province.

On December 5, it became known that the Syrian army redeployed its forces outside the city of Hama in order to save the lives of civilians. At the same time, on December 3, the Syrian Defense Ministry reported about the establishment of full control over the city.

The day before that, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia strongly condemns the sortie in Syria by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorists (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia). The Permanent Representative pointed out that the US and its allies are supporting the militants in order to "sow chaos in Syria." He recalled that the Russian Armed Forces are operating in Syria at the request of the legitimate authorities in Damascus and are fighting back against the terrorists.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on November 30 called the activation of terrorists in Syria part of the US plan against the backdrop of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. In turn, the White House denied its involvement in what is happening. In addition, Britain, the U.S., France and Germany called on all parties in Syria to de-escalate.

On November 28, the Syrian Defense Ministry reported that terrorist groups made a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the country's army began to repel it, causing serious damage to equipment and manpower of militants. The next day it became known that hundreds of terrorists in Aleppo and Idlib provinces were eliminated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on December 5 that Moscow was in contact with the Syrian authorities to escalate the situation in the country. He added that depending on the assessment of the situation, it would be possible to understand what kind of assistance the Syrian authorities need.
