Units of the Southern group of Russian troops have improved their tactical position in the special operation zone and repelled three counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Vadim Astafiev, a spokesman for the South grouping of troops, said on December 7.

"As a result of active actions improved tactical position, defeated the formations of three mechanized, jaeger, airmobile and airborne assault brigades in the areas of the settlements of Uspenovka, Kurakhovo, Trudovoye, Nikolaevka, Elizavetovka and Ostrovskoye," Interfax quoted him as saying.

Astafiev also added that Russian servicemen repelled three counterattacks by AFU assault groups. As a result, he continued, the enemy lost up to 360 of its fighters and also lost eight vehicles and a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery unit.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) of the motorized rifle brigade of the separate Guards Army of the Southern Group of Forces destroyed an AFU vehicle in the Kurakhov direction. Controlling the quadrocopter, the operator flew up to the speeding vehicle and dropped fragmentation grenade rounds. The target was damaged from the first hit, and after stopping, the vehicle was completely destroyed by a direct hit from the second round.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
