US President Joe Biden told the US Congress on December 6 that two strikes on facilities inside Syria in 2024 were ordered by him.

"I have instructed the U.S. military to conduct strikes on November 11 and November 26, 2024, against facilities in Syria used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)," Biden said in a letter to the leadership of both houses of the U.S. Congress, which was published on the White House website.

It is reported that these facilities were used by the IRGC in Syria as headquarters, weapons storage, training, logistics and so on. The strikes followed attacks on US personnel and facilities in Syria.

"The strikes followed attacks on United States personnel and facilities in Syria that threatened the lives of United States personnel and coalition forces operating with United States forces, and that were carried out by the IRGC, affiliated militia groups, and other Iranian-affiliated groups," the report of the head of America follows.

Biden explained that he ordered the strikes due to "the responsibility to protect United States citizens both at home and abroad, and to promote U.S. national security and foreign policy interests."

Earlier, on October 2, Politico reported that Israel is discussing with the United States a possible strike against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces in Yemen and Syria. At the same time, the newspaper's sources noted that Washington would prefer a more limited response.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Defense Ministry said on November 28 that terrorist groups launched a major attack in the cities of Aleppo and Idlib, at which time the Syrian Army began to repel them and inflicted significant damage to the equipment and manpower of terrorist groups.

On November 30, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the activation of terrorists in Syria part of the US plan against the backdrop of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. In turn, the White House denied its involvement in what is happening. In addition, Britain, the U.S., France and Germany called on all parties in Syria to de-escalate.

In turn, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said during a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on December 2 that the activation of terrorists in Syria was part of the plan of Israel and the United States for destabilization.

On December 6, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to the U.S. trace in the situation with militants in Syria. Commenting on the situation with the activation of militants in Syria, Lavrov noted that Russia, Turkey and Iran united and organized the Astana format to resolve the situation.
