Parliament to vote on investigation into South Korea's first lady

A vote on the investigation of South Korea's first lady will be held in the country's parliament. This was reported by Yonhap News Agency on December 7.
"The parliament will hold a new vote on a motion to call for an investigation into allegations of corruption and election meddling against Kim Gong-hee," the publication said.
The vote will take place before considering a motion to impeach South Korean President Yun Seok-yol. It is noted that in order to consider these issues, the agenda for representatives of the Parliament was changed, with which the representatives of the ruling "People's Power Party" strongly disagree.
Earlier in the day, South Korean President Yun Seok-yol apologized to his fellow citizens during a public address because of the introduction of martial law in the country. He also added that the declaration of martial law was due to desperation.
Korean President Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on Dec. 3. He cited the threat of power paralysis resulting from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings as the reason for such a move. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that until martial law is lifted in the republic, the activities of parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul, the country's capital.
The opposition party of the republic, in turn, demanded the resignation of the head of state and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, labor unions of the republic announced a general strike. The country's Minister of Defense Kim Yong-hyun, in turn, submitted a resignation letter
Later, the South Korean police began an investigation of the President on suspicion of rebellion because of his decision to impose martial law in the country. It was noted that the investigation began after complaints from opposition politicians about the actions of the head of state.
