NATO to launch new joint cyber defense center in 2028

A new joint cyber defense center, which will monitor and repel threats in the digital space, will be launched by NATO in 2028. Stefano Piermarocci, head of cyber risk management, told Breaking Defense on Dec. 6.
"This center will allow us to better combine how we monitor threats, control attacks on enterprises, and how we manage risk. So, it's a way to make it easier to do certain processes and make sure they're aligned with the security of the enterprise itself," he said.
Piermarocci noted that this will help speed up processes and increase communication with representatives from different countries.
In addition, as indicated by NATO CIO Manfred Boudreau-Demer, it is planned that the headquarters of the new NATO Integrated Cyber Defense Center (ICDC) will be located in the Belgian city of Mons.
Earlier, on September 5, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he sees no immediate military threat to the alliance member states, but there is a constant threat of terrorism, cyber attacks and sabotage.
In February, the DPA news agency, citing a NATO official, reported that the North Atlantic Alliance websites had been subjected to a hacker attack. It was noted that the object of hackers became, among other things, the portal of the headquarters of the special operations forces. Stoltenberg confirmed at a press conference in Brussels information about cyberattacks on the resources of the alliance.
