TASR has learned of Slovakia's intention to cut support for Ukrainian refugees

Slovakia will cut financial support for Ukrainian refugees. This was reported by the TASR news agency on 6 December.
As the publication writes, referring to the law signed by the President of the Republic Peter Pellegrini, from March 1, 2025 refugees from Ukraine will be able to receive state financial support for the payment of housing for 60 days instead of the current 120 days.
At the same time, the accommodation allowance for Ukrainians will only be granted for 60 days from the first granting of temporary asylum.
"Changing the conditions of placement of refugees in the asylum center and the provision of accommodation allowances applicants justify the need to consolidate public finances," - said in the text of the agency.
Earlier, on December 5, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Ukrainian refugees to more actively seek work in the FRG, otherwise they need to return home. He also announced plans to set up a Ukrainian administration in the country to coordinate refugee issues. According to him, this issue was discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20.
On 15 October, the head of the Polish Defense Ministry expressed outrage at the luxurious life of Ukrainian refugees in the country. They drive the best cars and spend weekends in five-star hotels, and this is unfair to Poles who contribute to health care, benefits, education, arms supplies and other assistance, Vladyslav Kosyniak-Kamysh said. He recalled that Poland was ready to help Ukraine "reach out" to the citizens who had left to return and join the Ukrainian army, as they were obliged to do.
At the same time, the British newspaper The Guardian wrote on September 24 that millions of Ukrainian refugees in Europe might end up on the street. According to the newspaper, Ukrainians in European countries face bureaucratic obstacles that prevent them from receiving support measures guaranteed by the EU laws.
Before that, on September 14, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski called on European countries to stop providing social benefits for Ukrainian male refugees of conscription age. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga supported this proposal.
European countries started to accommodate Ukrainian refugees on their territories since the beginning of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which Russia announced on 24 February 2022.
