Snow cover of up to 9 cm will form in Moscow at the weekend


Leading expert of the weather center "Phobos" Evgeny Tishkovets said that the next weekend December 7 and 8 in Moscow in the capital will form a snow cover up to 9 cm high.
In his Telegram channel on Friday, December 6, the specialist noted that in the second half of the night of Saturday, December 7, in the capital will begin to snow, which will intensify during the day. Up to 7 cm of snow will fall in a day, thanks to which a snow cover will be formed. By evening, its height will be 3-6 cm. Short-term worsening of visibility up to 1-4 km is expected. At night, the thermometer columns will drop to -3...-6 degrees, while in the daytime the temperature will be -1...-4 degrees.
On Sunday, December 8, snowfalls will continue, up to 12 mm of precipitation is predicted. The snow cover will increase from 6 to 9 cm, and this corresponds to the climatic norm of the end of the first decade of December, reports the agency of city news "Moscow".
In the Moscow region in the south and east will appear snow cover 2-7 cm high, in the west and north of the region are expected snowdrifts up to 7-12 cm, writes the website kp.ru. Also Tishkovets did not rule out advective fog with worsening visibility to several hundred meters. On the roads is expected snow, possible icy phenomena. Thermometer columns at dusk will show -1...-4 degrees, in the afternoon - from 0 to -3 degrees.
Over the weekend in the capital will fall about 30% of the total amount of precipitation for the month. On Monday, December 9, they will continue in the form of snow and sleet. It is expected to fall another 6 mm of snow. In the daytime hours it will be about 0 degrees with the likelihood of a weak thaw.
Tishkovets added that the snow cover formed over the weekend in Moscow will no longer melt and will remain until the New Year, writes "Moscow 24".
December 6, the head of the forecasting center "Meteo" Alexander Shuvalov in a conversation with NSN warned of a new phase of cold weather, which will begin on Tuesday, by the end of next week the frost will intensify. Frosts of up to -14 degrees are expected.
On the same day, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand predicted the fall of up to 10 cm of snow in Moscow by Monday.
Also on December 6, drivers near Moscow were warned about worsening weather on the night from Friday to Saturday. Road services are constantly monitoring the situation in order to clean and treat the streets from ice in time, reports 360.ru.
On December 5, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist of the Meteonovosti news agency, told RT that Moscow will be cloudy and windy over the weekend. According to her, another Atlantic cyclone will provide snowfall and bring the weather back to thaw, which will persist at the beginning of next week.
