The military groups Center and South continue fighting for populated areas in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Fighters told Izvestiya how the offensive against the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) positions near Kurakhovo is progressing.

In order to close the escape routes for the AFU fighters, the military is mined the nearby territories using rockets filled with explosive containers. Senior lieutenant and company commander Yan Ivanchenko noted that the rocket artillery system he is working on can mine everything from roads and fields to forest plantations.

"I have to pick two points on the map and fire a salvo," he said.

In the vicinity of Kurakhovo, the "collapse" of the trap for Ukrainian militants continues. The Russian Armed Forces are also fighting for the village of Starye Terny. The enemy units, which were near the settlement, found themselves almost completely surrounded by Russian troops. When the RF Armed Forces fighters reach the highway Kurakhovo - Zaporozhye, the militants will be forced to either surrender or stand at the positions until the end.

"This is the adrenaline that's straight up thrilling. That is, you are on the verge of death, but you go forward, constantly, rolling, rolling, rolling on the enemy and realize why you are doing it!" - Alexei Dubchenko, a Russian Armed Forces sergeant and squad commander, shared his opinion.

In addition, according to the fighters, in the forest belts near Kurakhovo there are violent trench skirmishes. Thus, a military man with the call sign Akai said that they had to constantly use grenades, and the dugouts were additionally reinforced with traps and "fox holes". In the area of the settlement, the forests turned into one big network of trenches.

"We are constantly recording interviews with storm troopers, asking them about these or those details of the battles, and when you just listen to these stories, you can't quite imagine what these guys had to go through. But when you come to the places they tell about, then all this reaches the brain of an ordinary civilian," said Izvestia correspondent Stanislav Grigoriev.

Earlier, on December 4, an adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Igor Kimakovsky, said that the Russian Armed Forces had taken a large section of the Zaporizhzhya-Kurakhovo highway under fire control. According to Kimakovsky, the southern direction is working from the northern bank of the Kurakhovo reservoir in order to displace the AFU fighters.

Prior to that, on November 25, it became known that the grouping of troops "South" of the Russian army continues the offensive on the city of Kurakhovo DNR, as well as preparing a large cauldron for Ukrainian servicemen. It was specified that the situation around Kurakhovo is extremely unfavorable for the AFU.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
