- The US has approved the sale of up to $807 million worth of AIM-120D3 missiles to the Netherlands

The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale of advanced AIM-120D3 air-to-air guided missiles and equipment to the Netherlands for up to $807 million, the Pentagon's security cooperation agency reported on December 6.
It is reported that the Netherlands has requested the delivery of up to 226 AIM-120D3 AMRAAM missiles. They will also be provided with missile control equipment, containers, KGV-135A encryption devices, spare parts, software, technical documentation, logistics and engineering support and other services.
"The proposed sale will improve the Netherlands' ability to meet current and future threats by providing advanced all-weather, beyond-visibility air defense to protect Dutch and allied forces in a transitional or combat situation and will significantly improve the Netherlands' contribution to NATO requirements," the department said in a statement posted on its website.
As the Pentagon added, the proposed sale will not adversely affect U.S. defense capabilities, nor will it change the basic military balance in the region.
Earlier, on December 2, the State Department approved the $1.17 billion sale of equipment for MH-60R multirole helicopters to India. It is specified that as part of the deal, the Indian government requested from the United States 30 tactical radio systems, advanced data transmission systems, external fuel tanks, AN/AAS 44C(V) forward-looking systems with infrared guidance, ammunition, logistics services and other types of assistance.
