Pushkov called the annulment of Romania's election a coup d'état

The annulment of the previously confirmed results of the first round of the Romanian presidential election represents a de facto coup d'état, which means that only pro-liberal and anti-Russian candidates should come to power in the European Union (EU) countries. This statement was made on December 6 by Alexei Pushkov, head of the Russian Federation Council Commission on Information Policy.
"In Romania - a de facto coup d'état: the Constitutional Court, which earlier confirmed the results of the first round of the presidential election, has now annulled these results! And this is two days before the second round. The reason is the victory in the first round of the independent candidate Georgescu, who, according to the ruling Romanian elite and Euro-liberals, should never be allowed to take power," he wrote in his Telegram channel.
In his opinion, after the annulment of the elections, all European Union countries are now facing a liberal dictatorship. Thus, he continued, Europe believes that "only liberal, pro-Brussels candidates, haters of Christianity, enemies of Russia, should come to power."
"The rest will be mercilessly culled. This is the meaning of the decision of the Romanian court. However, it was not his decision," the senator concluded.
On December 6, the Constitutional Court (CC) of Romania annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election. It was specified that the final decision was made following the results of the court session held on that day. In the near future, the government should approve new dates for the voting. The chairman of the opposition Moldovan Victory bloc, Ilan Shor, said that democracy in Romania died after the annulment of the election. He added that the statements about its alleged defense were a complete hypocrisy.
In turn, Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu said that the decision of the country's Constitutional Court to annul the results of the first round of elections was an undermining of democracy and an "official coup d'état. "
At the same time, political scientist, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy of the Russian State University Vadym Trukhachev told Izvestiya that the victory of independent candidate Calin Geor gescu in the first round of the presidential election in Romania was displeasing to the West because he would not help Ukraine to the detriment of his country.
After that, the chairman of the opposition Moldovan Victory bloc Ilan Shor said that democracy in Romania was dead after the annulment of the results of the first round of the election.
The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24. According to official data, independent candidate Calin Georgescu is leading with 22.94% of the vote. The leader of the opposition party "Union for the Salvation of Romania" Elena Lasconi has 19.17% of the votes. The second round was to be held on December 8, as none of the candidates could get more than 50%.
On November 28, the Constitutional Court of Romania demanded from the Central Election Commission (CEC) to recalculate the results of the first round. On November 29, the head of the Romanian CEC Tony Grebla said that if the Constitutional Court annuls the results of the first round, it could be held again on December 15. In this case, the second round of elections will have to be held on December 29, which causes a lot of inconvenience, he said.
On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin ridiculed the recount of votes in the Romanian elections. According to him, the authorities decided to take such a step only because they did not like the candidate who won the first round.
