Foreign ministers of Iraq, Syria and Iran meet for talks in Baghdad

Tripartite talks between Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his counterparts Abbas Araghchi from Syria and Bassam Sabbagha from Iran were held in Baghdad. This was reported in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry on December 6.

"The meeting touched upon the challenges facing the region as a whole and recent security developments in Syria <...> The participants condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and emphasized the need for collective action to counter it," the ministry said.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry pointed out that the heads of departments condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syria, as well as Gaza and Lebanon, and emphasized the need to respect the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to the American trace in the situation with the activation of militants in Syria. He specified that the United States "feeds" some Kurdish separatists in the east of the Arab republic using profits from the sale of oil and grain.

On December 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was in contact with the Syrian authorities on the worsening situation in the country. He added that depending on the assessment of the situation, it would be possible to understand what kind of assistance the Syrian authorities need to cope with the terrorist threat.

Before that, on December 4, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia strongly condemns the sortie in Syria by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorists (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia).

The Syrian ministry said on November 28 that the terrorist groups launched a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the Syrian army began to repel it, inflicting serious damage to the militants' equipment and manpower.
