During his trip to Ukraine in 2023, US President Joe Biden was accompanied by a "ghost train". This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) on 6 December.

According to the publication, there are always two alternate routes for the transportation of foreign officials in Ukraine.

"When Biden visited Kiev last year, two identical trains ran simultaneously on different routes," the NYT specified.

Deputy head of passenger transportation Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Shevchenko explained that this is done so that no one knows "which one is the ghost train and which one is the real one."

The newspaper also stressed that Ukrainian carriers had repurposed luxury railway cars originally designed for rich passengers to move foreign guests.

The meeting between US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20) took place on February 20, 2023 in St. Michael's Cathedral in Kiev. This was reported by the Ukrainian mass media, adding that the visit was planned secretly for security reasons.
