In Russia, the share of women among cybersports fans has almost reached 40%

One third of Russians (28.9%) are fond of cybersports, and among them the share of men is only 61.9%, i.e., contrary to popular belief, there are many women among cybersports fans. This is stated in the results of the research of the analytical center of the Association for the Development of Interactive Advertising (ARIR), which were read by "Izvestia" on December 10.

If in 2021 the number of women was only 20%, in 2024 their share reached 38.1%. At the same time, in 2021, the total audience of cybersport fans amounted to 15.4 million - about 10% of the country's population.

Among those who are interested in cybersports, the largest number of Russians aged 25-34 years old - their share is 39.7%. In general, the main age groups interested in cybersports are from 20 to 44 years old. The most popular content is live broadcasts of cybersports tournaments. According to experts, the gaming market is attractive for advertisers in terms of coverage of the solvent audience, which will soon become the main audience for most goods and services, and high efficiency of advertising tools.

"Based on the results of the study, I was pleasantly surprised that the share of women consuming cybersports content has doubled compared to 2021. While the share of men is still prevalent, this multiple growth gives a reason to think about advertisers whose core audience is female. Cybersport may become a new territory for communication with a loyal audience," explained Maria Litoshina, a member of the working group of the ARIR Committee on Gaming&Digital Entertainment Ad, Executive Director of Digital Communications at PHD agency.

Earlier, on September 17, it was reported that in 2025 in Russia will launch a project on voluntary labeling of video games. It is designed to encourage programmers to create useful content for citizens, support domestic manufacturers and start-up studios. The initiative is carried out by the Video Game Industry Development Organization. It is assumed that in order to obtain the mark it will be necessary to submit an application to this company.
