Somnologist Dmitry Duikin told how to fight sleep paralysis, which occurs, as a rule, against the background of circadian rhythms violation and various neurological deficits.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Friday, December 6, the specialist noted that to overcome this frightening condition will help eye exercises and compliance with sleep hygiene.

"Any healthy person, when he sleeps, is in a kind of paralysis. This is a neuro-chemical block of our body, which is turned on during the REM-phase, that is, the phase of REM sleep, when we dream," explained the specialist.

According to him, this protein is required for the dreaming person to "not run to the attack" and not to cause harm to himself and others.

According to the doctor, in some cases it happens that a person is almost awake and conscious, but still can not move. This happens because part of the brain continues to sleep and even dream.

Sleep paralysis, according to Duikin, can occur in healthy people who sleep little. It can also be a precursor to a rare condition such as narcolepsy. A common cause is disruption of circadian rhythms due to business trips, night shifts, and sleep deprivation. It can also be caused by neurological deficits, excessive impressionability, emotional lability, dependence on gadgets.

To get rid of sleep paralysis, the doctor urged to normalize work schedule and sleep hygiene, to go to bed at the same time, to work on neurological and psychological deficits. If paralysis occurred, he urged not to be frightened, but to try eye exercises: start slowly rotating them, after which the motor activity will gradually recover, first the facial muscles. Next, it is worth to move the fingers, toes, then - all limbs.

December 5, doctor-somnologist Pavel Kudinov said that complaints of sleep paralysis in Russians in recent months increased by 30%. According to him, the fact is that people began to pay attention to this phenomenon more often, whereas before they simply ignored the problem. Kudinov explained that the exact causes of sleep paralysis unequivocally difficult to name, writes the website kp.ru. He explained that during sleep paralysis, a person's consciousness wakes up a few seconds earlier than the parts of the brain that are responsible for movement, notes 360.ru.

In November, somnologist of the Scandinavian Health Center Natalia Zolotareva said that prolonged sleep can have a negative impact on health, especially if it becomes a regular practice. According to the specialist, prolonged sleep increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, reports NSN.

In February, the doctor-neurologist Elena Tsareva told about the causes and prevention of sleep paralysis. According to her, to prevent such a condition, you can try to improve sleep hygiene, give up caffeine and alcohol. If this does not help, it is recommended to consult a somnologist, RT reports.

Earlier, neurologist-somnologist Irina Zavalko told Izvestia that "sleep paralysis is not treated with drugs. This condition is tolerated much more easily, often the duration of episodes decreases dramatically when a person learns about the nature of the condition and that it is not dangerous to health and is not a sign that he or she has gone mad."
