- Political analyst linked the annulment of the Romanian election results to Georgescu's "inconvenience"

The victory of independent candidate Calin Georgescu in the first round of the presidential election in Romania is displeasing for the West, as it would not help Ukraine to the detriment of its own country. Vadym Trukhachev, a political scientist and associate professor of the department of foreign regional studies and foreign policy at the Russian State University of Humanities, told Izvestia on 6 December.
On the annulment of the results of the first round of the presidential election in Romania earlier in the day reported the press service of the Constitutional Court. It was noted that against this background, the entire electoral process will resume in full.
"[It happened] because there is a risk of a non-systemic candidate coming to power. <...> There is a possibility that Georgescu will go to the second round again, but with a higher probability that a systemic candidate, Prime Minister [Marchel] Ciolacu, will come out against him there. Of course, Georgescu will lose to him," Trukhachev commented.
In his opinion, the leader of the opposition party "Union for the Salvation of Romania," Elena Lasconi, who made it to the second round together with Georgescu, is a more convenient competitor for him, because she is "a record liberal globalist and a scabby Russophobe," while he is "an Orthodox patriot."
"Lasconi is a very convenient rival for Georgescu, with a possible election result of 50-50% between them. Laskoni is a typical representative of the views that for the sake of Ukraine you have to work hard, you have to fully follow the European Union and NATO, her victory is not guaranteed, it is better not to take risks. If we put up a candidate like Cholaka, then the chances are better," the interlocutor added.
Thus, he emphasized, Gheorgescu's victory is disliked by NATO and the European Union, because the Western leadership thinks in the framework of wartime. Now, Trukhachev explained, the West cannot allow to power a person who will not adhere to the general pro-Ukrainian and anti-Russian vector as president of Romania.
The first round of the Romanian presidential election took place on November 24. According to official data, independent candidate Calin Georgescu is leading with 22.94% of the vote. The leader of the opposition party "Union for the Salvation of Romania" Elena Lasconi has 19.17% of the votes. The second round was to be held on December 8, as none of the candidates could get more than 50%.
On November 28, the Constitutional Court of Romania demanded from the Central Election Commission (CEC) to recalculate the results of the first round. On November 29, the head of the Romanian CEC Tony Grebla said that if the Constitutional Court annuls the results of the first round, it could be held again on December 15. In this case, the second round of elections will have to be held on December 29, which causes a lot of inconvenience, he said.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin ridiculed the recount of votes in the Romanian elections. According to him, the authorities decided to take such a step only because they did not like the candidate who won in the first round.
Before that, on December 2, Georgescu said that in case of victory in the elections will follow the decisions of the elected US President Donald Trump on the peace agreement in Ukraine. At the same time, the U.S. State Department warned that Romania's possible abandonment of its pro-Western course as a result of the presidential election in the country could lead to a reduction in investments.
