NYT: Musk spent more than $250 million to help Trump win the election

US billionaire Ilon Musk spent more than $250 million to help US President-elect Donald Trump win the election, The New York Times reported on December 5, citing federal election commission documents.
"According to federal documents released Thursday, Ilon Musk, the world's richest man, spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars in the final months of this year's campaign to help Donald Trump win the presidential election," the piece said.
The journalists called it staggering that such a sum came from a single donor who plays a role in shaping the future White House administration.
In particular, one of the donations in the amount of $20 million was intended to gain the support of the committee, named in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
It is noted, however, that Musk's total spending on the past election is unknown and may remain uncounted.
Earlier, on November 13, Trump announced that Musk and another entrepreneur, Vivek Ramaswamy, will head the new Department of efficiency of the US government (DOGE). The structure will have to take a direct part in the reorganization of the American government. The work of the department will be completed no later than July 4, 2026.
The election of the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 49.9% of the votes, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 48.4%. During the election campaign, various American media repeatedly drew attention to the financial support of the Republican Musk.
