An economic state of emergency is being introduced in Transnistria due to the current difficult situation in the energy sector. This decision was made on 6 December by the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR), Vadim Krasnoselsky, during a meeting with members of the Security Council, according to the website of the region's head.

Krasnoselsky noted that negative tendencies in this sphere have been recorded not for the first year. In particular, the full development of the country's economy is hindered by external factors - these are military actions in Ukraine and instability in Moldova.

"We talked about the risks associated with a sharp increase in the load on power grids. They mentioned 2009, when in a similar situation the outdated infrastructure of the energy system failed. Since then, significant funds have been invested in its modernization, so there will not be as many major accidents as a decade and a half ago, [Deputy Prime Minister of the PMR] Sergei Obolonik assured. At the same time, he emphasized the readiness of the emergency teams," the press service of the head of the region said.

The meeting also discussed possible alternative ways of heat supply. Instructions were given to purchase or manufacture the necessary equipment for this purpose, to distribute stocks of diesel and solid fuel. And also to temporarily suspend the work of certain organizations, to compact collectives to heat smaller areas by transferring employees to remote work.

"The President heard reports from the heads on the readiness of each ministry and agency for the possible lack of gas supply. among other things, he instructed to prepare premises for heating of citizens in a difficult situation. <...> Lunches should be provided at the warming points. At the end of the hours-long meeting, the members of the Security Council made a unanimous decision on the expediency of introducing an economic state of emergency in Transnistria," Krasnoselsky's website reported.

Before that, on December 5, the newspaper Ziarul de Gardă reported that Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean demanded from the Parliament to declare a state of emergency (state of emergency) in the energy sector. The state of emergency will be in effect from December 16 and will remain in force "until the problematic situation is overcome." In addition, he demanded the resignation of Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, as well as the head of the state-owned company Energocom, Victor Bynzar, and a member of the supervisory board of Moldovagaz, Serhiy Tofilat.

Earlier, on November 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that a possible cessation of gas supplies to Transnistria by Russia after the stoppage of Russian gas transit through Ukraine would turn into a humanitarian catastrophe. According to him, such a situation should be avoided by any state.

On November 22, the Moldovan energy minister said that Transnistria might face energy difficulties from January 1 if Russia's Gazprom stops gas supplies. The energy minister said that the country needs the help of foreign partners, but neither Brussels nor Washington are among them, which will not finance the Transnistrian region.

On November 20, former president and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said that the strategic partnership between Moldova and Russia should be resumed and sanctions should be lifted. Prior to that, on November 9, Parlikov said that Chisinau was asking Russian energy company Gazprom to clarify gas supplies without waiting until December 31, when the five-year contract on transit through Ukraine expires.
