The holiday season is upon us: some of us have already started decorating our homes, ordering gifts or planning what to please our relatives with, but unfortunately, there are those among us who have to give up their favorite treats for health reasons. Nutriciologist and DDX fitness trainer Artem Opalnitsky told Izvestia about how to make a holiday menu for allergy sufferers.

"Unfortunately, the holiday table is a full set of incompatible allergens, and all in one night! Mayonnaise, sausage, herring and tangerines are a test for the stomach and risks of getting better," Opalnitsky notes.

According to him, traditional dishes that can be found on the holiday table contain many allergens. For example, in Caesar salad, allergens can be in the sauce as well as in the seafood, and in crab salad, a potential allergen is the crab stick. If you like the taste of the salad, you can try substituting allergenic ingredients. However, you probably won't be able to make a seafood salad without these ingredients. It is also important to pay attention to various dressings and preferably prepare them yourself.

The specialist recommends taking into account such products as fresh cucumbers, which are unlikely to cause allergic reactions, cauliflower or broccoli, zucchini, arugula, parsley and dill. Among drinks, apple and pear compote and mineral water are preferred.

Opalnitsky notes that a number of alcoholic beverages can provoke allergic reactions. For example, red wine contains sulfites, histamines and polyphenols, and white wine may also contain sulfites. Beer is rife with grains that can act as allergens, and rum and whiskey are made from wheat, barley and corn, which can also lead to allergies.

Earlier, on November 24, Natalia Kharchenko, candidate of medical sciences, gastroenterologist at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Izvestia about how to avoid harmful recipes and make New Year's dishes more healthy. To make the New Year's table healthier, the doctor recommended starting with a salad of fresh vegetables and greens, as well as adhering to the plate rule.
