The State Duma assessed the effect of Lavrov's interview with Carlson

State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson spoke about Russia's position, which has always been peacekeeping.
In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Friday, December 6, the MP pointed out that the effect of the interview will largely depend on whether the Western society will be allowed to hear it.
The MP emphasized that Lavrov outlined the position of the Russian Federation, which has always sought and is seeking dialog with everyone.
"Ready to cooperate in everything that does not contradict the interests of our country, ready to build relations based on international law. We have always worked for and never worked against," Chepa said.
He pointed out that Lavrov also outlined Russia's position on the Ukrainian conflict and the country's openness to dialog.
"We were the initiators of the Minsk agreements, made concessions for the sake of peace. But the problem is that it is unknown to what extent Western countries will be ready to voice Lavrov's theses from the interview," Chepa noted.
He recalled the pressure Carlson was under after his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He expressed confidence that if people were given to hear this interview, they might think about it.
Earlier, Tucker Carlson came to Moscow and had an hour and a half interview with Sergei Lavrov. The main topic of the conversation was the lack of dialogue between Moscow and Washington and the "threat of a nuclear exchange" in case of maximum escalation of the conflict between Russia and the West.
Carlson published the interview on the night of December 6 Moscow time. In the first 10 minutes it gained 100 thousand views, notes 360.ru. The timing of the material amounted to 80 minutes, RT specifies.
By morning, the interview had been viewed 2.9 million times on social network X (formerly Twitter).
University of Pittsburgh professor Daniel Kovalik said the same day that "the interview with Sergey Lavrov shows that Russia, as we say in the US, is the adult in the room. It is ready to cooperate with the West and wants to avoid nuclear war," according to the website kp.ru.
Lavrov said in the interview that Russia has no intentions to destroy the Ukrainian people as they are brothers and sisters to Russians. He also said that a number of countries are tired of the Ukrainian conflict and talk that the US wants to leave it to Europe. Moscow is hearing changes in the statements of the West and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term expired on May 20) on the conflict, NSN notes.
Also during the conversation, Carlson said that in December 2016, "in the last days of the administration of American leader Joe Biden" he further aggravated the relationship between Russia and the United States. Lavrov corrected Carlson and reminded him that Barack Obama was president in 2016. Joe Biden held the position of vice president. The journalist admitted his mistake, notes the website aif.ru.
