- Matvienko pointed to the technological leadership of Russia and Belarus

Thanks to mutual cooperation, Russia and Belarus have technological leadership. This was announced by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko on December 6.
Matviyenko flew to Minsk on a working visit earlier in the day together with Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
During her visit to Minsk, together with Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, she visited the innovation center of the Horizont holding company, which is actively working within the framework of the Union programs and contracts that are concluded on the platforms of the forum of Russian and Belarusian regions.
"Today there is already technological leadership of Russia and Belarus, the Union State in a number of areas, but the number of such areas is expanding thanks to our talented people and our mutually beneficial cooperation," she said.
Matvienko emphasized that at the moment Horizon is cooperating with many Russian companies, which demonstrates amazing results in moving towards technological leadership. According to her, there are all conditions for this, as well as "brainy people, super-talented youth, wonderful scientists and scientific schools." She added that within the framework of the Union State there are co-financing programs for significant areas of cooperation, including the production of electronics and household appliances.
Earlier in the day, Putin said that industrial cooperation between Russia and Belarus is built with a focus on import substitution. According to him, only 27 import-substituting projects are currently being implemented, but this figure should be "hundreds of times higher" for the united market. He noted that both states will benefit from such projects.
