Georgian Interior Ministry officers found a cache with an arsenal of weapons during searches in the house of a member of the United National Movement party Dmitri Chikovani. This is reported on December 6 on the website of the agency.

"During the search, law enforcement officers seized both registered and several dozen unregistered firearms, silencers, ammunition, computer equipment, as well as a memory card from a special cache in the apartment," the report says.

It is specified that the searches at this and other addresses were conducted within the framework of an investigation concerning the organization of violence and public calls for violent actions.

The Georgian opposition party United National Movement was founded by the country's former president Mikheil Saakashvili. Chikovani serves as its public relations secretary.

Protests have been going on for more than a week in Georgia over the suspension of European integration talks and the opposition's disagreement with the results of parliamentary elections. On separate days, protesters have tried to set fire to the Georgian parliament building and damaged dozens of offices, and law enforcement agencies have had to use tear gas.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that another attempt to organize a revolution and implement the scenario of the Ukrainian Maidan had failed in the country. He promised that the organizers of the protests would not be able to escape responsibility. During this period, searches were also conducted in the office of the opposition party "Akhali", one of its leaders Nika Gvaramia was detained.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the events in Georgia its internal affair. In his assessment, the protests in the country are an attempt to sway the situation.
