French President Emmanuel Macron does not understand how parliament works, Jean-Luc Melanchon, founder of the Unconquered France party, told French TV channel TF1. The video was published on December 6 on the media outlet's YouTube channel.

According to Mélenchon, the French president does not understand what is happening in the country and its political life.

"He has no understanding of how parliament works, he doesn't understand what just happened. This is a vote of no confidence not in Mr. [Prime Minister Michel] Barnier, but in Macron," he said.

The politician added that Macron must resign in order for the people to go to the presidential election. He clarified that the vote of no confidence is great news for most people.

"If the next prime minister will take the measures for which we (the Unconquered France party. - Ed.) were favored [in the parliamentary elections] - abolishing the increase in the retirement age to 64, increasing wages - we will support him. And if not, we will fight," the party founder said.

He called the time of Michel Barnier's presidency "three months of Macron's blockade of any initiatives."

"We simply had to pass this vote of no confidence. The only way to solve this problem is to chop it at the root. Macron is that problem," the politician summarized.

Earlier in the day, Sergei Fedorov, a leading researcher at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia that the possibility of Macron's resignation was being discussed amid the political crisis in France. However, the likelihood of such a scenario is low, as the impeachment procedure is very difficult to carry out.

The day before, during an address to the nation, Macron said that he was not going to leave the presidency until the end of his term in 2027. He also reminded that he will not be able to run for re-election.

Before that, on December 4, the French National Assembly (lower house of parliament) adopted a resolution of no confidence in the Barnier government. 331 deputies voted for the vote of no confidence. Nicolas Dupont-Eignan, leader of the "Stand Up France" party, cited Macron's financial chaos and his commitment to U.S. President Joe Biden as the reason for the loss of confidence in him.

Then, on December 5, Macron announced that a new French prime minister would be appointed in the coming days. He specified that the new prime minister would have to form a cabinet of representatives of all parties.
