Cooperation with Russia is important for Belarus, including for improving the quality of trade. This was stated by Minister of Economy of the republic Yury Chebotar on December 6, answering the question of Izvestia.
The head of the ministry emphasized that over 25 years of development of the Union State, the main thing is that Moscow and Minsk do not stop and regularly "take new heights."
"This year, as well as last year, [recorded] the peak of our joint trade turnover, including supplies from Belarus to the Russian Federation. We say constantly that in terms of socio-economic development, the Russian Federation is the No. 1 partner for Belarus, No. 1 for our market, including the supplier for Belarus," he said on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
Chebotar added that cooperation with the Russian Federation is important for Belarus, including - to improve the quality of trade.
"We set the key task to increase trade turnover, to grow at a rate higher than the world, including at the expense of domestic income and investment," concluded the Minister.
Earlier in the day, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, speaking at a meeting of the Supreme State Council (SSC) of the Union State (SS), also emphasized the successful cooperation between Moscow and Minsk, pointing to the GDP growth of Russia and Belarus by about 2.5 times compared to 1999 and the increase in trade turnover between the countries to $55 billion last year with a forecast of $60 billion this year.
The day before, Lukashenko said at a meeting on preparations for the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State that trade between Russia and Belarus in 2024 will renew the historical maximum and reach $60 billion.
