Relations between Russia and Belarus are built on the principles of friendship and mutual consideration of interests. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 6.
On this day, the Russian leader is taking part in a meeting of the Supreme State Council (SSC) of the Union State (SS) in Minsk, timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the treaty on its creation, which was signed on December 9, 1999.
At the beginning of his speech, Putin said that the meeting was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on its creation of the Union State, which was signed on December 9, 1999. He reminded that the signing of the document is the merit of the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin and the current leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. The Russian president called the treaty a fundamental agreement, guided by which the Russian Federation and the republic have done extensive work over the past quarter of a century.
"The main thing is that Russian-Belarusian relations, alliance, strategic partnership are built on the inviolable principles of friendship and good-neighborliness, mutual respect and consideration of interests," Putin said.
In addition, the two countries are united by a common history, which has created family and kinship ties between many Russians and Belarusians, as well as commitment to the same moral and spiritual values, he noted.
"Trade and investment exchanges are actively developing within the framework of the Union State, multifaceted business contacts and cooperation ties are expanding. Conditions are being created for stable sustainable growth of the economies of our countries, that is, integration actually brings tangible benefits to the citizens of both our countries," the Russian president said.
Putin also noted that the meetings of the Council of Ministers of Russia and Belarus are held on a regular basis. With the support of the Standing Committee of the SG, a coordinated economic policy is carried out, the functioning of financial and banking systems is coordinated. According to him, special attention is paid to minimizing the damage from illegal Western sanctions and restrictions.
At the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, Lukashenko said that signing a union treaty with Russia was the right decision, because only in cooperation Moscow and Minsk can realize their potential.
He also said at the meeting that Russia and Belarus need to coordinate industrial policy, create a common energy market and carry out rational import substitution. He called the realization of a common economic policy, ensured by equal rights of citizens in the union space, a paramount task.
State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Wolfovich told reporters before the meeting that the Russian Federation would protect the republic in a difficult moment, while the latter would always support Russia in response. On the eve, December 5, Putin ordered to accept the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry and sign a treaty with Belarus on security guarantees within the framework of the Union State (SU).
