In Kuzbass sentenced prisoners for taking hostages in a pre-trial detention center in 2022

Six prisoners, who took hostages in Kemerovo pre-trial detention center No. 1 in August 2022, were sentenced to imprisonment for terms from 10 to 28 years. This was reported on December 6 by the Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the region.

"By the court verdict, the perpetrators were sentenced to sentences from 10 to 28 years of imprisonment with restriction of freedom for a period of one year six months. Two of them for five years the punishment will have to serve in prison, then in a correctional colony of strict regime", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

It is established that during the above events, one of the defendants proposed to cellmates to seize the employees of the detention center to get a cell phone and drugs. The men agreed and a few days later attacked three employees of the pre-trial detention center, barricaded themselves in the cell and made their demands, threatening with cutting objects. Soon the hostages were released by the Kedr special forces unit of the GU FSIN of Russia in the region, no one was hurt.

With the help of video recordings, investigators established the sequence of events and the role of each of the defendants. They were found guilty under paragraphs "a", paragraph "g" and paragraph "g" of part 2 of article 206 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Capture and holding a hostage by a group of persons by prior conspiracy") and part 2 of article 321 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Use of violence and threat of its use against an employee of a place of detention").

The hostage-taking in question took place on August 21, 2022 in Kemerovo Detention Center No. 1. The law enforcers released the FSIN officers a few hours later. On the same day, a criminal case was opened over the incident.
