December 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin flew to Minsk to hold a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

The materials for the meeting inform that the heads of state plan to discuss both bilateral issues and pressing world problems.

It is specified that the event will also focus on strengthening the common defense space of Russia and Belarus.

In addition, the progress of union construction and prospects for further integration cooperation will be considered, as well as it is planned to make a number of specific decisions on the formation of a united market of electric energy, countering illegal imports of goods, the introduction of common rules for consumer protection and comfortable tariffs for communication services.

The day before Putin ordered to accept the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry and sign a treaty with Belarus on security guarantees within the framework of the Union State (SU). It is noted that the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry is agreed with the interested federal government agencies.

Prior to that, the leaders' talks were held on October 9 in the Kremlin. During the meeting Putin and Lukashenko discussed the development of Russian-Belarusian relations with a focus on integration cooperation within the Union State.

At the beginning of the meeting Putin stated that the dynamics of relations between Russia and Belarus is significant, trade and economic ties are developing at a good pace. In addition, Russia and Belarus have an opportunity to complement each other well in industrial projects, particularly in aviation.
