Fraudsters have started using corrupted text documents of the Word program to steal user accounts. This was reported on December 6 by the press service of the department for organizing the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Russian Interior Ministry.

Cybercriminals send letters with corrupted Word documents, using the file recovery function to bypass antivirus protection. The emails masquerade as notifications from HR or accounting departments about monetary payments.

"When opening the documents, Word detects that the file is corrupted, reports that 'unreadable content has been detected,' and then offers to restore the file," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

Clicking on the link to restore the file, the victim is taken to a phishing site similar to Microsoft's. This page scans and steals the user's credentials.

On the eve of the Moscow police said that in the capital there are new groups of scammers who deceive people by pretending to deliver flowers from a "secret admirer". It all begins with the fact that the courier arrives with a bouquet of flowers at the address where the gift no one ordered, and leaves it to the recipient, and then to confirm receipt of delivery asks to name the code from the message. But these are identification numbers to confirm financial transactions.
