Expert reported on French politicians discussing Macron's resignation

Against the backdrop of the political crisis in France, there are discussions about the possibility of the resignation of the country's President Emmanuel Macron. However, the probability of such a scenario is low, as the impeachment procedure is very difficult to carry out. This was stated by Sergei Fedorov, a leading researcher of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in a conversation with "Izvestia" on December 6.
The day before, during an address to the nation, Macron said that he was not going to leave the presidency until the end of his term in 2027. He also reminded that he will not be able to run for re-election.
"The question of Macron's resignation is now being intensively discussed. Both the extreme left and the extreme right are demanding it. More than 60% of [polled] French people believe that Macron is to blame for the current political chaos and wish him to resign," commented Fedorov.
The corresponding information was reported by Europe1 journalists on November 29. It is specified that 62% of respondents were in favor of Macron's resignation in case of resignation from the post of Prime Minister Michel Barnier. At the same time, the expert added, many French people are confident that to achieve Macron's resignation will not succeed because of the legal complexity of the impeachment procedure.
"It will not be possible to simply initiate the impeachment of the president, it is an extremely complicated legal procedure. And Macron has repeatedly stated <...> that he is not going anywhere. <...> The situation is tense, France is in a political crisis, a financial and economic crisis, because the budget needs to be cut thoroughly. This year, the French budget will be with a deficit of more than 6% of GDP," - summarized the interlocutor of the publication.
Earlier, on December 4, the National Assembly (lower house of Parliament) of France adopted a resolution of no confidence in the government of Barnier. For a vote of no confidence voted 331 deputies. Nicolas Dupont-Eignan, leader of the "Stand Up France" party, cited Macron's financial chaos and his commitment to U.S. President Joe Biden as the reason for the loss of confidence in him.
Then, on December 5, Macron announced that a new French prime minister would be appointed in the coming days. He specified that the new prime minister would have to form a cabinet of representatives of all parties.
