Peskov explained the change of governor of Kursk region


The appointment of Alexander Khinshtein as interim governor of Kursk Region is a necessity of crisis management in the region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on December 6.
"In due course, the president [Russia's Vladimir Putin] has clearly said that crisis management is demanded," he said.
Peskov said that Khinstein's candidacy was deemed the most suitable due to his experience in previous posts. Putin therefore decided to appoint him to the new post.
As for Kursk Region Governor Alexei Smirnov, the Kremlin spokesman said that he resigned on his own. According to Peskov, Smirnov is moving to a new place of work, the details are unknown.
Smirnov announced his resignation on December 5. He noted that the new place of service requires great responsibility, so he will do his best to justify the trust placed in him.
On the same day, Putin appointed Khinstein to the post of interim governor of Kursk region. The decree also specifies that Putin accepted the resignation of the Governor of Kursk region Alexei Smirnov.
Alexei Smirnov took office as governor of the Kursk region on September 16. It became known on September 9 that Smirnov, the interim governor of Kursk region, won the election of the head of the region. According to the results of processing 100% of protocols Smirnov has 65.28% of the votes.
