Newly elected U.S. President-elect Republican Donald Trump said he had chosen former Georgia Senator David Perdue to be ambassador to China. This was reported by Reuters on December 6.

It is specified that Trump assigned Perdue, who has business experience, to help fix bilateral relations characterized by trade tensions and deep mistrust.

"He will play an important role in implementing my strategy to maintain peace in the region and a productive working relationship with China's leaders," Reuters quoted the politician as saying.

David Perdue is a Republican from Georgia and was a senator from 2015 to 2021. Before that, he lived in Hong Kong for 40 years while building a career as a business executive.

As the publication elaborates, some analysts believe Beijing is likely to seek direct presidential or high-level engagement with Trump and his closest advisers "to deal with the almost inevitable return of trade tensions".

Earlier on Dec. 3, the Republican nominated billionaire and investment banker Warren Stephens for the post of U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, specifying that the latter has been able to build a "remarkable firm" over 38 years that successfully provides various financial services. He noted that the billionaire has long "dreamed of serving the United States."

Prior to that, on December 1, Trump nominated Cash Patel, former chief of staff to the US Secretary of Defense, to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), noting that the latter had a significant impact on exposing Russia's attributed interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump is convinced that under the new head of the FBI "the crime epidemic in America will be ended."

On November 27, Donald Trump said that Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence , would become the special envoy on Ukraine in his administration. The Republican promised that together they would "deliver peace through strength and make America and the world safe again."

The election for the 47th president of the United States took place on Nov. 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Later, the politician, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th President of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the cessation of military conflicts in the world.
