German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock on December 5 at the OSCE Foreign Ministers' Council in an attempt to criticize Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's position on Ukraine almost doubled the number of Europe's population.

"You can fool yourself, but you can't fool us, 1.3 billion people in Europe," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

The population of Europe, according to the United Nations, is about 750 million people.

The German Foreign Ministry on its page in the social network X (former Twitter) later published the words of Berbock, correcting and noting that 1.3 billion people are in the OSCE region.

Lavrov arrived in Malta to participate in the OSCE Ministerial Council on December 5. He was scheduled to meet with the foreign ministers of several countries on the platform. At the same time, the Russian side intends to draw special attention to the failure to issue visas to representatives of Moscow.

On the same day, it was reported that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga defiantly left the plenary session hall of the OSCE Ministerial Council when Lavrov started his speech at the forum. According to the Ukrainian daily Strana.ua, the Ukrainian minister called his Russian counterpart a war criminal. Together with Sibiga, the foreign ministers of Poland and the Czech Republic also left the hall.

The Foreign Ministry reportedabout Russia's plans to take part in the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Malta in early October. In November, it was reported that Poland and its partners could not agree on their reaction to Lavrov's participation in the meeting.

The OSCE Foreign Ministers' Council, which is the central decision-making and governing body of the organization, is taking place in Malta on 5-6 December.
