Lavrov commented on talk of a limited nuclear exchange with the US

Discussion of a limited exchange of nuclear strikes between Russia and the United States is dangerous. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, published on December 6.
"Professionals in the field of nuclear deterrence policy know very well that this is a very dangerous game. And talk of a limited exchange of nuclear strikes is an invitation to a catastrophe, which we do not want," he emphasized.
On the same day, Lavrov pointed to the US hybrid warfare against Russia in an interview with Carlson. He also added that the Russian side is aware that some officials in the Pentagon and in other organizations, including NATO, in recent days began to say that the best defense is an attack. Thus, the diplomat recalled, Thomas Buchanan, a representative of the U.S. Defense Department's Strategic Command, said that he admits the possibility of exchanging limited nuclear strikes.
On December 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that there is a possibility that the "cold war" in the world will move into a hot phase. According to him, the U.S. and its allies have torn up all arms control agreements concluded in the 1980s.
On November 30, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the danger of a nuclear exchange between the United States and Russia exists, but Moscow will do everything possible to avoid it.
On November 21, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was making every effort to prevent a nuclear exchange with the United States. The Russian presidential spokesman expressed hope that other countries adhere to the same position and will not engage in provocative actions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an updated nuclear doctrine on November 19. It includes the amendments announced in September. In particular, for the first time a definition of a potential adversary against whom the Russian Federation is conducting nuclear deterrence is introduced.
In his turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was open to normalizing relations with the United States, but Washington should take retaliatory actions.
