Putin accepted the resignation of Smirnov, who led the Kursk region for 205 days

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the resignation of Kursk Region Governor Alexei Smirnov, who himself submitted an application for early termination of office. This follows from the decree, which was published on the Kremlin website on December 5.

"In connection with the statement of the Governor of the Kursk region Smirnov A.B. on early termination of powers <...> I decide to accept the resignation of the Governor of the Kursk region Smirnov A.B. at his own request," - stated in the text of the document.

At the same time, Alexander Khinshtein was appointed to the post of Acting Governor of the Kursk region.

"To appoint Khinshtein Alexander Evseevich Khinshtein temporarily acting Governor of the Kursk region until the entry into office of the person elected Governor of the Kursk region," - stated in the text.

Alexei Smirnov took office as Governor of the Kursk region on September 16. The fact that Smirnov, the interim Governor of Kursk region, won the election of the head of the region became known on September 9. According to the results of processing 100% of protocols Smirnov has 65.28% of the votes.
