The Iraqi Armed Forces are ready to confront terrorist challenges against the backdrop of military escalation in Syria caused by attacks by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (recognized as a terrorist group and banned in Russia). Fadi al-Shamri, advisor to the country's prime minister on political issues, told Izvestia.

"The activity of terrorist groups in northwestern Syria is considered a dangerous event in terms of the militants' chosen timing, combat readiness and provision of weapons, it requires caution and full combat readiness," the adviser to the prime minister told Izvestia.

Earlier, Yahya Rasul, the spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, said that the republic had sent armored units to the areas bordering Syria to reinforce the positions of its army.

"Our armed forces of all kinds are fully prepared to confront any terrorist activity that jeopardizes the security of our people. We will crush the terrorists wherever they are and will not allow them to desecrate our land," Fadi al-Shamri noted.

A parliamentary source in Iraq spoke to Izvestia about the fear of the possibility of infiltration into the country of the families of IS militants (recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) from the al-Hol camp, which is located dozens of kilometers from the border with the republic, against the background of general destabilization in Syria.
