A new method of creating polymers with increased heat resistance has been developed by scientists of the Center for STI "Digital Materials Science" of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Thanks to this method, the domestic industry will be able to import substitutes for those materials that were previously produced only outside the Russian Federation.
Experts listed the key areas for the use of new superconstructive polymer materials. In particular, they will make the production of flexible printed circuit boards and electrical connectors for aircraft cheaper and more efficient, removing dependence on imported products.
It is noted that the materials themselves are of great interest for the creation of a new generation of high-temperature resistant polymers. They are resistant to radioactive radiation, flame retardant, have high chemical resistance, resistant to fuels and oils, notes Vadim Istomin, a leading engineer at the Center for STI of Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
"In recent years there has been active development of new methods of synthesis and processing of super-constructive polymeric materials. Interest in them is due to their high performance characteristics. We are actively working on scaling up the synthesis of polyarylates, polyethersulfones and polyetherimides. A striking example of such resources can be sopolyimides and polyetherimides developed by us, which are not worse, and in some parameters even slightly better than their foreign analogs: Ultem 1000 and Exterm brands from the well-known world manufacturer SABIC", - added the specialist.
Industry experts pointed out that in addition to instrumentation and electrical engineering "Bauman thermoplastics" will cover some of the current needs of medical technologies. In particular, when creating parts subject to periodic cleaning and sterilization: for example, sterilization trays, handles for dental and surgical instruments, endoscopic probe attachments. As well as components for filtration panels, heat exchangers and parts for formula milk machines.
