The resigned governor of Kursk Region, Alexei Smirnov, has announced his transition to a new place of work. About this he wrote in his Telegram-channel on December 5.

"By decision of the leadership I am moving to a new place of service. This is a great responsibility, and I will do my best to justify the trust placed in me," he wrote.

Smirnov thanked his team and the citizens of Kursk region for their support, and emphasized that he would "make every effort to support the region" in his new position.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Khinshtein as interim governor of the Kursk region. The decree also specifies that Putin accepted the resignation petition of Kursk Region Governor Alexei Smirnov.

Alexei Smirnov took office as governor of the Kursk region on September 16. It became known on September 9 that Smirnov, the interim governor of Kursk region, won the election of the head of the region. According to the results of processing 100% of protocols Smirnov has 65.28% of the votes.
