Academician Evgeny Velikhov died at the 90th year of life


Academician, an outstanding scientist in the field of thermonuclear fusion Evgeny Velikhov died at the 90th year of life. This was reported to "Izvestia" on December 5 in the press service of the SIC "Kurchatov Institute".
Evgeny Velikhov was born February 2, 1935 in Moscow, graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University and since 1961 worked at the Institute of Atomic Energy named after I.V. Kurchatov. He worked at the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy since 1961. He was also among the leaders of the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
Velikhov was awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the Order of Courage for his participation in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. He was a full cavalier of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
