Putin appoints Khinstein as governor of Kursk region


Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Khinshtein as interim governor of Kursk Region. The corresponding decree was published on the Kremlin website on December 5.
"To appoint Alexander Evseevich Khinshtein as interim acting governor of the Kursk region until the person elected governor of the Kursk region takes office," the text reads.
The decree also specifies that Putin accepted the resignation petition of Kursk Region Governor Alexei Smirnov.
The Kremlin also said that during the meeting between Putin and Khinstein, the president pointed out that crisis management is "in demand" in Kursk region at the moment, and as the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters are dislodged in the region, economic, housing and communal services and territory restoration will be required.
"And most importantly, it is necessary to organize work to help people who certainly need this help both in the current regime and in the near future," the president stressed.
Alexei Smirnov took office as governor of Kursk region on September 16. It became known on September 9 that Smirnov, who was temporarily acting governor of Kursk region, won the election of the head of the region. According to the results of processing 100% of protocols Smirnov has 65.28% of the votes.
