- The head of the "Second Life" movement spoke about the difficulties of combining family and volunteering

Maria Karpenko, the winner in the main nomination of the international award "We are together - 2024" "Volunteer of the Year", head of the movement "Second Life", told "Izvestia" on December 5 about the difficulties of combining family life and volunteer work.
"These two professions have to be combined. With volunteering, of course, it has only become more complicated. Mother and volunteer - grief in the family," says Karpenko.
According to her, when she went to the front line at the beginning of a special military operation, she tried not to tell her child about it and hide this fact from her family so that they would not worry. Now, as she noted, her relatives have already gotten used to her profession.
Maria said that she gets scared before going out, but in the SWO zone she perceives everything as a normal job.
The head of the "Second Life" movement specified that the movement started its work in 2016. It helps civilians and resettlers from the affected territories. With the beginning of the NWO, as the volunteer noted, the movement also began to help Russian servicemen, collect humanitarian aid and take it to the fighters.
"Now we have opened evacuation points, pre-hospital care. We have created a separate medical detachment "Reinforcement", which provides pre-hospital care, also teaches tactical medicine to both civilians and our defenders," Karpenko specified.
In addition, she said that the movement plans to open a children's group, where children will teach other children tactical medicine and the basics of security.
Theaward was presented toKarpenko by Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the day. After receiving it, the head of the movement noted that a huge number of volunteers deserve this award.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
