A desperate desire to lose weight in the few remaining weeks before the New Year can lead to serious health consequences. Tatyana Meshcheriakova, a doctor-dietitologist and expert in the field of healthy nutrition of Level Kitchen service, told Izvestia on December 8 about the most frequent mistakes of thinners for the holiday and called for healthy preparation of the form in a short time.

"The most popular mistake is an extremely sharp restriction of caloric intake. We are talking about reducing the daily calorie intake by two or more times: a sharp transition to 1000-1200 kcal and less. Especially often to such techniques resort to people who are accustomed to eating all dishes without restrictions, eat a lot of sweets and junk food in the sum of 2500-3000 kcal. Remember that the reduction of daily calorie intake should be gradual, with a consistent reduction of no more than 20% week after week," - said the expert.

According to her, otherwise, in about a month a person can earn serious disorders of the digestive, immune and hormonal systems. A sharp reduction in caloric intake is a stress for the whole body, which leads to spasms of major muscle groups, changes in the functional state of blood vessels, nervous system and digestion.

Another disadvantage is switching to unbalanced diets. Any mono-diet falls into this category: protein or fat diets, as well as raw food diets on fruits and vegetables with complete exclusion of hot foods, cereals, breads and meat products.

"Such diets are also a stress on the body, caused by a serious imbalance of nutrients needed in the daily diet. For example, a protein monodiet leads to a deficiency of fats and carbohydrates. And fats, in turn, are responsible for the protective function of the body, maintaining body temperature - their absence in the diet leads to a sharp decrease in energy (sleepiness, lack of strength, low emotional background, high irritability). Carbohydrate deficiency leads to mood swings, loss of strength," explained Meshcheryakova.

Among the mistakes are also excessive physical exertion. The nutritionist said that in general, normalized physical activity is welcome at any time of the year. However, it is not necessary for December to fulfill the annual norm of physical exertion in the gym, she emphasized.

"Often those who resort to such a format, to everything else, add to it insufficient and incomplete nutrition. Irregular training until the seventh sweat will quickly lead to emotional burnout and neuromuscular conduction disorders: rapid fatigue, insufficient time for full recovery from the load. In this regard, instead of building muscle mass and burning fat tissue you can get metabolic disorders and hormonal system failures", - emphasized the expert.

In addition, unreasonable use of pharmaceutical drugs is harmful: diuretics or laxatives. According to the expert, usually using diuretics and laxatives on the advice of acquaintances, or unverified resources on the Internet, thinners are trying to instantly get rid of excess fluid and swelling. However, instead of the desired result, you can get problems of electrolyte metabolism, dehydration, heart rhythm disorders and others.

Another mistake is a complete refusal of food, starvation.

"Starvation itself is often used as unloading-diet therapy in order to solve a number of health problems. But do not confuse unloading days (allowed no more than three or four times a month) with prolonged fasting (on water or dry). The second is recommended with careful preparation and under medical supervision. If a person switches to such a variant of fasting without preparation, in an extreme way, it can lead to severe headaches, emotional instability, immunity disorders, hormonal failure," explained Meshcheriakova.

According to the expert, the tactics of weight loss should be clear and smooth: you need to remember that in most cases, a slow reduction in volume is a much more pleasant and long-term bonus than instantly dropped kilograms.

The doctor specified that it is still possible to lose two or three kilograms in a healthy way before the end of the year, if you follow a few rules. First, she recommended removing from the diet any types of simple carbohydrates (confectionery and bakery products, sweet desserts, candy, muffins, cookies, chocolate bars), and reduce the consumption of animal fats (fatty varieties of meat, lard, dense mature cheeses, fatty sour cream, butter).

"Secondly, refuse the abundance of coffee, tea, energy drinks, packaged juices, lemonades in favor of warm or hot water without additives - this will restore the water deficit in the body and improve metabolism. And finally, get in the habit of allocating at least 30 minutes, or better 1 hour for simple physical activity (walking, exercise, exercise on an exercise bike)", - concluded Meshcheryakova.

Earlier, on November 29, endocrinologist, nutritionist of the clinic of plastic surgery, cosmetology and rehabilitation IQplastique Victoria Prilepskaya told "Izvestia" that hormones play a key role in various processes of the body and can be associated with weight gain. According to her, hypothyroidism, i.e. a decrease in thyroid function, slows metabolism, leads to fluid retention and edema, which, in turn, causes weight gain and makes it difficult to lose weight.
