The doctor named the causes of excessive hair growth and severe hair loss

Hormonal status of a person is directly reflected not only on his general well-being, but also entirely on his appearance. Each disease has a so-called typical mask, noted doctor-endocrinologist "Paracelsus Clinic" Lada Vagapova. She told Izvestia on December 6 about the causes of excessive hair growth and severe hair loss.
"The condition and growth of hair, both insufficient and excessive, is one of the main indicators of possible disorders in the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, ovaries in women or testicles in men," Vagapova specified.
In addition, these pathologies are combined with other cosmetic problems. For example, insufficient growth, loss, brittleness and thinning, as well as dry hair is a frequent complaint that is combined with dry skin, swelling of eyelids, face and weight gain, the doctor pointed out. According to her, this situation is a classic manifestation of hypothyroidism - reduced thyroid function.
"Also thinning and hair loss can accompany a woman with concomitant pathologies associated with a decrease in the functional activity of the adrenal glands and ovaries, as an example in postmenopause," the expert said.
In addition, considering the conditions associated with excessive hair growth on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, inner thighs and back, as a rule, doctors talk about hyperandrogenism - an increase in the level of male sex hormones in the body. However, uncharacteristic hair growth for women in these areas is a hormone-dependent process and requires the exclusion of increased activity of the adrenal glands, various causes of increased prolactin, decreased thyroid function, pituitary and ovarian disorders, as well as the exclusion of formations that inadequately produce testosterone, added the endocrinologist.
According to her, all these pathologies are accompanied by additional cosmetic and general systemic changes: acne, swelling, weight gain, changes in blood pressure, changes in skin color, possible visual impairment, headaches, changes in appearance, menstrual disorders, conception and pregnancy. At the same time, such conditions are more serious health disorders than mere cosmetic changes.
"To exclude these pathologies or to prescribe competent diagnosis and therapy when they are detected, it is necessary to consult an endocrinologist to conduct research based on the clinical picture and the actual condition of the patient, as each appointment have their own peculiarities", - reminded Vagapova.
Earlier, on December 5, Marianna Nazarova, cosmetologist and dermatologist of "SM-Cosmetology" told "Izvestia" that normally 60 to 100 hairs fall out per day. This process is usually unnoticeable. If the number of hair falling out becomes greater, it can be attributed to pathology. In addition, the causes of increased hair loss can be attributed, in particular, recently transferred viral diseases, she specified.
