A German defense ministry spokesman on December 5 refused to comment to Izvestia on a possible incident involving the firing of a German helicopter in the Baltic Sea, allegedly attacked by a Russian military vessel using flares.

"For reasons of military security, we cannot provide any information on operational aspects, regardless of the specific cases," a German defense ministry spokesman told the publication.

Earlier, German news agency DPA on the social network X (formerly Twitter) claimed an incident in the Baltic Sea in which a certain Russian vessel allegedly fired flares at a Bundeswehr helicopter. The agency did not cite any evidence.

German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported that the incident was briefly mentioned by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers held in Brussels on December 3 and 4. She also said that Berlin plans to strengthen security in the region.
