- Russian Foreign Minister talks about interaction between Washington and Moscow through "closed channels"

Russia and the United States interact through "closed channels" of communication mainly on the topic of exchange of people serving sentences in the states. In addition, Washington through such channels duplicates publicly announced theses on the Ukrainian crisis. In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, published on December 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"There are several 'channels', but they are mainly involved in exchanges of people serving time in Russia and the United States. There have been several such exchanges. There are also "channels" that are not publicized, but mostly the Americans transmit through them the same thing they say publicly: "we must stop", "must accept the needs of Ukraine and its positions"," the Minister specified.
Thus, he emphasized, Washington continues to support the so-called peace formula and victory plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired in May. Among other things, through confidential channels, Western representatives inform about meetings on the situation in Ukraine - to one of them in the first half of the year, Kiev's partners will "kindly invite" Russian representatives as well, the diplomat said.
"We have a 'channel' that is automatically activated when a ballistic missile is launched. As for the Oreshnik hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile, the system sent a message to the US 30 minutes before the launch. They knew it was going to happen and did not mistake it for something larger and truly dangerous," Lavrov added.
Earlier, on December 5, it was reported about a telephone conversation between the chiefs of general staff of the armies of the Russian Federation and the United States. It was specified that the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (AF) of Russia Valery Gerasimov and Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces Charles Brown for the first time in more than a year, November 27, held a telephone conversation to discuss security issues, including the conflict in Ukraine.
Prior to that, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Nov. 21 that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to take on elements of a global conflict. He also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik missile, had been tested under combat conditions.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
