Lavrov called the Oreshnik test a signal of Russia's readiness to respond to the West

Russia is ready to respond by all means to the West's attempts to inflict a strategic defeat on it. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson published on December 6, when asked what Moscow wanted to communicate by testing the Oreshnik missile system.
"The message is that the United States and its allies, who supply long-range weapons to the Kiev regime, should understand that we will be ready to use any means to prevent the West from succeeding in inflicting a strategic defeat on us," he reportedly said.
The diplomat emphasized that representatives of the West are fighting to maintain their hegemony around the world while Russia is fighting for its legitimate security interests. He recalled that U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who is on Russia's list of terrorists and extremists, recently during his visit to Kiev bluntly stated that Ukraine 's minerals should be taken by the United States so that they do not go to Russia.
"They are fighting for a regime that is ready to sell or give all natural and human resources to the West. We, on the other hand, are fighting for the people living on these lands, whose ancestors have been developing them for centuries, building cities and factories. We care about people, not about natural resources, which someone in the United States would like to take for themselves and would like to have Ukrainians as servants "sitting" on these natural resources," - summarized the Minister.
He also added that Russia's military doctrine states that the most important thing is to avoid a nuclear war. Thus, it was Moscow that in January 2022 initiated a joint statement by the leaders of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council that the states would do everything to avoid a clash between them. However, Western countries ignored Russian interests; the proposal to conclude a treaty on security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine was rejected.
"Of course, we would like to avoid misunderstandings. But since some personalities in London, in Brussels, do not seem to assess the situation quite correctly, we are ready to send additional 'messages' if they do not make the necessary conclusions," Lavrov concluded.
The live test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 21. He specified that the move was in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine.
In the following days, the head of state clarified that Russia would continue these tests and that the decision on the serial production of missiles had already been made. He also revealed that the Oreshnik has 10 separating blocks that attack the target and everything in the epicenter of the explosion turns into dust.
